Introduction about Hotel
A Place Where Rationality and Imagination Go Hand in Hand
The Monte Verità Hotel is the result of a farsighted project that began early last century, when the first settlers, i.e. the anarchists of the vegetarian colony, discovered the climatic characteristics of the place, the mild temperatures and the bright light and exploited them by setting up a vegetarian naturist wellness centre. In 1928, Baron Von der Heydt commissioned the German architect Emil Fahrenkamp to build the new hotel in pure Bauhaus style, adding new architectural and aesthetical features to a place that was as heterogeneous as the personalities and the influences that it attracted.
The original imaginativeness of the first huts built by the vegetarians and the art-nouveau style of Casa Semiramis go hand in hand with the world-renowned rational geometric and mathematical Bauhaus style of today's hotel.
A melting pot of different styles and philosophies of life, Monte Verità and its hotel retain the style that they acquired when they were last restructured in 1992 by the architect Livio Vacchini from Ascona. Here, past and present meld together in the same way as they do in the new relaunch project, that is through constructive renovation. The relaunch project presents the basic features of the place's architectural geometry and the style of life of the first settlers in a modern context to recreate the perfect setting for encouraging the development of new ideas and dreams and for meeting and exchanging knowledge.
