Welcome to a Utopia Come True
Monte Verità is set amidst the hills overlooking Ascona and Lake Maggiore. From the very beginning it has been a magnet for the convergence of ideas, movements, experiments and historical personages, all of which are being commemorated with a new project to promote the Monte Verità centre.

The alleged magnetism originating from the natural magnetic forces present in the area and the unique microclimatic characteristics of Monte Verità were combined in 1900 with the ideals of the first settlers, the founders of the vegetarian colony, who lived out their utopia of a Reform of Life for some twenty years.

After a brief period of experimentation and artistic activities, in 1926 the hill welcomed Baron Eduard Freiherr Von der Heydt, the great art collector who was responsible for attracting cultural, social, architectural, political and economic activities to Monte Verità, bringing fame and prestige to the entire region.

In 1989 the place was converted into a seminar centre with the cooperation of the Canton of Ticino and the Centro Stefano Franscini, which represents the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology.

Today Monte Verità projects a new image, successfully combining tradition and innovation, one that is in keeping with its one-hundred-year history, which is presented in a constructive manner and is innovative in terms of the architectural, cultural and natural elements that testify to a utopia come true.
