Among the various phases that have shaped the history of Monte Verità, the period associated with Eduard von der Heydt represents a significant turning point. With the purchase of the mountain in 1926, the Baron, a collector and patron of the arts, ushered in a new chapter in the history of the Ascona hill, which would continue to serve as a meeting place for art and international culture.
He commissioned the construction of the Bauhaus-style hotel, which still represents the heart of the Monte Verità Centre today. Following his death in 1964, the entire complex and park were donated to the Canton of Ticino.
The Monte Verità Foundation dedicates an evening to this multifaceted figure and to the legacy his presence left in Ascona.

A complex and controversial figure, von der Heydt is presented by historian Raphael Rues and Esther Tisa Francini, Head of Provenance Research at the Rietberg Museum Archives. After retracing his biography during his years in Ascona and his experience at Monte Verità, the evening will explore his role as an art collector, his relationships with artists and gallery owners, and the origins of the Rietberg Museum.

The Bauhaus (Weimar 1919 – Dessau 1933) was one of the most influential institutions of the 20th century in the fields of art, architecture and design. Although not part of its formal curriculum, music played an important role, particularly in exploring connections between modern music and other artistic forms. With: Lïga Liedskalnina – soprano, Corrado Greco – piano, Claude Hauri – cello, Gianna A. Mina – guided listening.
